[Update 30/7/08: As informed by Syms, Men's Group is getting a release. Cinema Nova have confirmed that Waltz With Bashir will screen from a 35mm print].
[Update 11/8/08]: Aztec have confirmed that O' Horten will get a release, probably early 2009, so that they can capitalise on the press coverage from the film's release in the US. This is a great little film, by the director of Factotum, and I highly recommend it.
[Update 11/8/08]: Kino Cinema has confirmed that Sukiyaki Western Django will screen there from 4/9/08, ahead of its DVD release on 16/10/08 (thanks John for the tip).
As promised, I've compiled a list of films screening at MIFF that are expected to get a local release. These can be divided into several categories:
- Films with a confirmed theatrical release date
- Films with a confirmed DVD-only release date
- Films attached to a distributor, but it's unclear what release, if any, will be given
If anyone has any further info on any of these releases, please post or otherwise let me know and I'll update the details.

Great job Paul. One other to note is The Bank Job which has its Australian release five days after its appearance at the festival!
Thanks, Stephen. I've updated the list. I don't know how I overlooked that title.
Hey Paul
Can you tell me if any of the films showing at this festival DON'T have a distributor?
Interested to know if there are any at all...
So will I be seeing you opening night? Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Not Quite Hollywood a second time, and also with half the interviewees in the audience. Hopefully it will shake the shit out of the room, and wake them up to what the restivus were doing in the 1970s other than making stories about girls disappearing into mysterious rocks.
Titan View is distributing Men's Group.
Yes, Syms, I'll be there. The missus doesn't want to go to the after-party and I'm not fussed about 'em, so we'll call it quits after the screening.
I note that Men's Group has been classified (MA15+). Do you know if it's getting a theatrical release?
I am 60% sure the answer to that is "yes".
Men's Group release: Sept 18th thru Titan View (who did The Jammed last year).
This is a fantastic resource - makes my festival planning so much easier. Thanks.
Thanks for the info, Syms. I'll update the post. How come you found out about this? You know the director?
Yes, and the producer/distributor.
ps. The film has one of the most sublime posters of any local film this year. See here:
http://symscovington.blogspot.com/2008/07/simplicity.html
Yes, Syms, it is a nice poster. But how does it stack up as a film; that we shall have to wait and see.
I think it is; seen it twice now. LB did a teensy write up during MIFF:

Sukiyaki Western Django is due to be released at Kino Cinemas on Sept. 4. I saw posters in their foyer the other day.

Thanks for the tip about Sukiyaki Western Django, John, which Kino has confirmed. I suppose it did well enough at MIFF for them to fit in a short screening before it is released on DVD the following month.
