(I love them). I would suggest Late August, Early September as it's probably closest in tone to Summer Hours.Bradhttp://screener.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34898184.post-43776941632834766302009-04-02T22:53:00.000+11:002009-04-02T22:53:00.000+11:00PP, I feel that way about every film. It started out looking like a fairly run-of-the-mill French family drama. It just became so much more for me, though I don't expect everyone to be as impressed.Paul Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10965628567103267009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34898184.post-23041029673694186882009-04-02T15:34:00.000+11:002009-04-02T15:34:00.000+11:00Good movie :)I had a thought mid-way through that ...Good movie :)

I had a thought mid-way through that these sort of films really sorta come alive on the cinema screen - i don't think i would've had the same type of satisfaction if i watched it at home.

I too get a kick out of subtle, understated film-making - at one point i found myself just smiling with that cinema intoxication feeling. It looks like it could have been a drab French family melodrama (the French do a lot of those, too), but it skillfully avoids it.

I can't say that Assayas is close to my favourite French director.
